· Ellis, Smith Take Home Titles At Cagesport XIV

Tacoma, WA – “Fast” Eddy Ellis and Trevor Smith both captured CageSport MMA titles at CageSport XIV on Saturday, April 23 at the Emerald Queen Casino in Tacoma.
Ellis, an 11-year veteran of the sport, defeated Tim Welch to claim the welterweight championship, while Smith defeated Jared Torgeson to win the light heavyweight title.
Ellis (16-15-1) withstood some early offense by the hard-hitting Welch (4-3) before stopping the bout with a rear naked choke at the 2:11 mark of the first round.
Sidelined due to injuries, Ellis last fought nearly two years ago, winning at CageSport V. Welch entered the contest a perfect 3-0 lifetime at CageSport events.
Smith, a former collegiate wrestler at Iowa State University, improved to 7-1 professional after making Torgeson tap out to guillotine choke 1:18 into the first round.
In a highly anticipated showdown Kyle “Kodiak” Keeney defeated former CageSport heavyweight champion Matt “The Attack” Kovacs by north-south choke 1:08 into the second round.
Highlighting the undercard was Czar Sklovos (4-1), who won a split decision over John Maryanski in a 135-pound bout.
Additional CageSport XIV winners included Justin Hawes, Roy Bradshaw, Julian Erosa, Angel Diaz, Craig Jackson and Tommy Huizenga.
