· Vinny Magalhaes Tapped For M-1 Challenge, Facing Jake Doerr

"The Ultimate Fighter" season eight competitor Vinny Magalhaes has been tasked with facing Jake Doerr at next week's M-1 Global event, "M-1 Challenge: Damkovsky vs. Figueroa," set to air on Showtime. The card will be the first of M-1's events to be featured on the network, the current home of Strikeforce and the former home of Elite XC. The broadcast begins at 11 p.m. on Friday March 25 live from Norfolk, Va. (delayed on the West Coast).

Magalhaes is currently enjoying a modest two-fight win streak, with victories over Alihan Mamomedov and Robert Scott. All six of his career wins have come by submission, with no knockouts or decisions. He was a finalist on the popular Spike reality series meeting Ryan Bader at "The Ultimate Fighter Finale 8," where he lost by knockout in the first round.

After a loss to current UFC competitor Elliott Marshall, Magalhaes was released by the organization. He won his next two bouts, including a victory over former TUF alumnus Mike Nickels, who had competed on the third season of the show. Only two of his five career losses come by knockout or submission.

His opponent, Jake Doerr, is undefeated in his career with five of his six career wins by either knockout or submission. He holds wins over Rico Washington Sr., Miguel Cooley, Mike Hansen, Jason Careaga, Ryan Kelly, and Nowanda Bell. Five of the wins came under the Ultimate Combat Sports banner.

Doerr had his first professional bout in 2004, but had a two-year gap in mixed martial arts competition between 2005 and 2007. From 2007-2009, he also had a layoff of more than a year, and come fight time, will not have fought for two years. He trains with notable fighter Nick "The Goat" Thompson.
