· Potential Fireworks Ahead For Sotiropoulos vs. Dos Anjos At UFC 132
Evan Dunham has been forced to withdraw from his lightweight bout at UFC 132 against George Sotiropoulos due to injury. Rafael Dos Anjos has verbally agreed to step in and take his spot. UFC 132 will take place July 2, 2011 in Las Vegas. Prior to the injury, Dunham had lost his last two outings after going 11-0 in his career, four fights of which were in the UFC.
Australia's own George Sotiropoulos was primed and ready for his title opportunity to come when those chances were derailed at UFC 127 in February. The unanimous decision loss to Denis Siver was his first in more than four years and his first in the UFC after seven consecutive wins. A victory over Dos Anjos could put him back on track.
Dos Anjos also lost his last fight after enjoying a three fight win streak. His UFC career has been up and down since his debut at UFC 91 in November 2008. He lost his first two UFC bouts to Tyson Griffin and Jeremy Stephens before earning three wins in a row over Rob Emerson, Kyle Bradley, and Terry Etim. Clay Guida ended that streak at UFC 117, last August after Dos Anjos suffered a jaw injury that would not allow him to continue. A win over Sotiropoulos would be huge in getting back up in the rankings.
"Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt Dos Anjos has won 'Fight of the Night' and 'Submission of the Night' awards and Sotiropoulos has won 'Fight of the Night' twice so I expect an amazing fight," said UFC president Dana White.
