· Brian Davidson Steps In Against Jens Pulver At Titan Fighting Championship 18
Missouri fighter Brian “Mr. D” Davidson has agreed to take on mixed martial arts legend Jens “Little Evil” Pulver at Titan Fighting Championship 18, scheduled for May 27 at the Memorial Hall in Kansas City, Kan. and set to air live on HDNet. Also on the card are UFC veterans Drew “The Massacre” McFedries and Rory Markham.
The inaugural UFC lightweight champion, Pulver (24-14-1) is on a recent career upsurge after suffering six consecutive losses in a two-and-a-half year period. Fighting out of Team Curran MMA, “Little Evil” has back-to-back wins in 2011. He last fought at Chicago Cagefighting Championship III this March, where he defeated Wade Choate via split decision despite having broken his foot in the first round.
Pulver is dropping to a 140-pound catchweight for the headlining bout against Davidson. With 12 years in the fight game, he owns victories over such notable fighters as B.J. Penn, Dennis Hallman, Joe Stevenson, Caol Uno, and John Lewis.
Having fought under both the Strikeforce and Bellator banner, Davidson (6-3) is coming out of retirement for the opportunity to face Pulver. He is a late replacement for Pulver’s original opponent Mike Powell, who was removed due to a bout agreement violation.
Davidson’s most recent competition was at Bellator 32 last October where he annihilated Shane Hutchinson, knocking him out at just 54 seconds into round one. Of his six wins, five have come by way of knockout.
“Brian retired from active competition last year in order to focus on his duties as the head trainer at K2L/Grindhouse MMA. However, the offer to fight a legend in this sport on HDNet was too much for Brian to pass up,” Titan Fighting CEO Joe Kelly remarked. “Brian is a former world tae kwon do champion and his unique striking style will make for an explosive fight.”
