Just as Bellator Fighting Championships’ season four comes to a close, the promotion will make its first foray into the Garden State. Bellator 44 is announced for May 14, 2011 from Caesars Casino Hotel in Atlantic City, N.J. The event, broadcast live on MTV2, will include one set of tournament finals and a headlining non-title bout between Middleweight Champion Hector Lombard and UFC veteran Falaniko "Niko" Vitale.

Scheduled for its world premiere on Thursday March 24th in Moscow, Russia, "The Salamander Key" is a motion picture staring Rutger Hauer, Michael Madsen and mixed martial arts legend Fedor Emelianenko. The action-film marks Emelianenko’s debut on the big screen. Premised on a group of international scientists who disappear on a remote island in South-Eastern Asia while conducting advanced medical research, the Rescue Group commissioned to seek out the team locate remnants of a high-tech laboratory revealing evidence that experimental testing has been conducted on animals and humans; the last communication from the scientists prior to their disappearance cautions the world of immanent, grave global disaster.

The UFC returns to the Pearl at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas on Saturday, June 4 with a stacked card headlined by a pivotal lightweight clash between Anthony “Showtime” Pettis and Clay “The Carpenter” Guida. The winner of this highly-anticipated bout is expected to emerge as a top contender to the UFC lightweight title. If that wasn’t enough, the June 4 event will crown the welterweight winner of season 13 of "The Ultimate Fighter." Another bout confirmed for this card includes a lightweight collision between "The Ultimate Fighter" season 12 winner Jonathan Brookins and tested veteran Jeremy Stephens.

What kind of media outlet would we be if we didn’t immediately mention Jon Jones in this piece? Although he already has his next bout lined up with Rashad Evans, it is still relevant to mention the youngest champion in UFC history. The co-main event at UFC 128 had title implications as well, and the UFC has already confirmed that Urijah Faber will take on Dominick Cruz for the bantamweight title. That fight could take a little while to happen, however, as those two are pegged as likely coaches for the first-ever season of bantamweights and/or featherweights on “The Ultimate Fighter.”

“UFC 128: Shogun vs. Jones” beamed out to the masses from the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J. last night and featured an all-star cast of MMA talent. One veteran looked to hold on to his title, one looked to hold on to his career, and others looked to hold on to their places in the pecking order for title contention. All the while, young upstarts hoped to begin their own eras of dominance. As always, once the Octagon door has closed on its latest event the only question worth asking is: What did we learn?

On the first of four trips Bellator Fighting Championships will make to Oklahoma during season four, Bellator 37 is set to take place live at the Lucky Star Casino in Oklahoma City tonight, March 19 at 7 p.m. ET/6 p.m. CT, exclusively on MTV2. The event hosts four fights from the opening round of Bellator’s featherweight tournament and the winner will earn $100,000 and a title shot at current Bellator World Featherweight Champion Joe Warren. The evening will also feature four undercard bouts. The weigh-in results are below.

 


· Vinny Magalhaes Tapped For M-1 Challenge, Facing Jake Doerr

"The Ultimate Fighter" season eight competitor Vinny Magalhaes has been tasked with facing Jake Doerr at next week's M-1 Global event, "M-1 Challenge: Damkovsky vs. Figueroa," set to air on Showtime. The card will be the first of M-1's events to be featured on the network, the current home of Strikeforce and the former home of Elite XC. The broadcast begins at 11 p.m. on Friday March 25 live from Norfolk, Va. (delayed on the West Coast).

 


· Bellator 37 - Main Card Preview

This Saturday marks the 37th installment of Bellator Fighting Championships as it makes its first visit to Concho, Oklahoma. Bellator 37 will host the opening round of the promotion's featherweight tournament, as well as such notables as decorated Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt Wilson Reis, WEC/UFC alumni Jake Rosholt, and "The Ultimate Fighter" veteran Roli Delgado. The main card of the show features four featherweight quarterfinal bouts that should supplement the preliminary card perfectly.

On March 25, Titan Fighting Championship airs Titan FC 17 with former wrestling superstar Bobby Lashley headlining against John Ott. Also featured on the card is former Strikeforce and UFC fighter Phil Baroni in a welterweight matchup against Nick Nolte. The event will broadcast live on Mark Cuban's HDNet, the home of mixed martial arts and K-1 tournament action.
