· Top Prospect Tyrone Glover Signs With MFC

Top Canadian promotion Maximum Fighting Championships has its latest "home grown" prospect—Tyrone "T-Money" Glover. Glover, a 31-year-old lightweight who trains at Grudge Training Center in Denver, took a four-year hiatus from the sport to finish earning his law degree. He could make his MFC debut as early as February at "MFC 28: Supremacy."

 


· Sengoku “Soul Of Fight” Set With 15 MMA Bouts

Fifteen fights and the bout order have been set for "Sengoku: Soul of Fight," an all-day martial arts festival scheduled to take place in Tokyo on December 30. The event, which will air on HDNet in two parts on January 14 and January 21 in the U.S., will be headlined by a featherweight championship bout between Champion Marlon Sandro and Hatsu Hioki. The event will also feature the finals of the Sengoku welterweight grand prix and the semifinals of the Asian bantamweight grand prix.

 


· UFC Finalizes Two Events For January

This week, UFC put the final touches on the first two events for 2011. First up is "UFC 125: Resolution" on New Year's day from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Followed a few weeks later by the company's second "Fight for the Troops" event, this year the event takes place at Fort Hood in Killeen, Texas. The sport as a whole, and UFC in particular, are hoping to see all new heights in 2011, and if UFC is the current standard bearer, they will be setting the bar awfully high to start off the new year.

After an emotional screening and tear-inducing question-and-answer session this past Friday night in Boise, Idaho, mixed martial arts legend Jens Pulver is once again asking for the help of the MMA community to help make his documentary a success. "Jens Pulver | Driven" chronicles Pulver's last fight for World Extreme Cagefighting—which he lost earlier this year to Javier Vazquez at WEC 47—while the film also includes emotional scenes where he talks about his rough childhood and uplifting moments where he plays with his young son Karson.

Top U.K. promotion Cage Warriors returned to promoting events in 2010, but 2011 looks to be an even bigger year for the organization. With eight events set for next year, the first event in February already has what could be its biggest fight. British fighter Rosi Sexton will take on former Strikeforce title challenger Roxanne Modafferi in a pivotal women's 125-pound bout at the event. The fight was confirmed to MMASpot.net by sources close to the organization.

New Year's Eve in Japan just added a healthy dose of star power. Recently crowned K-1 World Grand Prix 2010 champion and reigning Strikeforce Heavyweight Champion Alistair Overeem has officially been added to "Dynamite!! 2010," the annual hybrid mixed martial arts and kickboxing show put on by Japan's Fighting and Entertainment Group. An official an announcement as to his opponent is not expected until after Christmas.

 


· Daniel Gracie Officially Joins Bellator Light Heavyweight Tournament

The inaugural Bellator light heavyweight tournament was announced just days ago and already has its first participant. The first family of fighting will be represented, as Daniel Gracie (5-2-1) has officially joined the eight-man roster and will compete at 205 pounds with seven other fighters for the chance to become the first-ever Bellator light heavyweight champion.

 


· USA vs. Brazil, Mexico vs. Kazakhstan Set For MMA Xplosion’s International Team Challenge

A rising promotion in the Las Vegas mixed martial arts scene, MMA Xplosion will return on Jan. 29 with "International Team Challenge," the newest installment for the organization that will see teams from different countries fighting in several bouts during the night. Slated to compete on the card for Team Brazil is "The Ultimate Fighter 8" runner-up Vinny Magalhaes in a bout against Team USA up-and-comer Damien Knight.

A potential catchweight bout between UFC veteran Forrest Petz and former NFL running back Herbert "Whisper" Goodman will headline the next Bobish's Ultimate Cage Battles event on January 15, sources tell MMASpot.net. The event, titled "Pride & Glory," will take place in Parma, Ohio and will be the fourth event from MMA pioneer Dan Bobish's organization. Also taking part in the event will be rising middleweight prospect Brian Rogers.

 


· Championship Doubleheader Set For Strikeforce On Jan. 29

Diaz vs. Mayhem will have to wait, at least for awhile. Instead of a grudge match with Jason "Mayhem" Miller, Strikeforce Welterweight Champion Nick Diaz will instead defend his title for the second time when he faces Evangelista "Cyborg" Santos in the main event of Jan. 29's Strikeforce event in San Jose, Calif. Also part of the Jan. 29 card will be a middleweight championship fight between Strikeforce Champion Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza and challenger Robbie Lawler.
