Phillipe Nover Replaces Kyle Bradley Against Sam Stout At UFN 19
posted by Joe Gullo
UFC lightweight Phillipe “The Filipino Assassin” Nover (6-2-1) has agreed to step in to fight Sam “Hands of Stone” Stout (14-5-1) at UFC Ultimate Fight Night 19 on September 16. Following an undisclosed injury, Stout's original opponent Kyle Bradley (14-6, 1 NC) was forced to withdraw from the event, leaving Nover the opportunity to snap a two fight losing streak. Nover will be taking the fight on just four weeks notice.
Nover himself faced Bradley in his last fight at UFC 98 which resulted in a controversial loss. Bradley dropped Nover to his knees with strikes though Nover appeared to recover quickly and reach for Bradley's legs, however referee Yves Lavigne stepped in to render a stoppage widely considered to be premature. In addition to his loss to Efrain “Hecho en México” Escudero (11-0) in The Ultimate Fighter season 8 finale, Nover has not yet lived up to the hype bestowed upon him by Dana White, who described him as “the next Anderson Silva” during his TUF tenure.
Stout comes to the fight after a decision victory over “Handsome” Matt Wiman (10-5) at UFC 97. With a record of 2-2 in his last 4 fights and the recipient of three “fight of the night” honors, Stout hopes to use this opportunity to continue his momentum forward into a title shot at the 155 lb belt.
