Gina Carano To Star In Spy Thriller; Rampage Possibly Singed On For The A-Team
posted by J. Andrew Yount
Gina Carano, once tagged the face of women’s MMA, has decided that her next opponent will be movie critics and the box office. Carano signed on recently to star in the Steven Soderbergh film Knockout. Although she is not new to film studios, this will be Carano’s first starring role.
The award winning Soderbergh, director of the Ocean’s trilogy and The Informant, has labeled Carano’s role as “a girl from the wrong side of the tracks who is given a second chance to use her skills for constructive purposes.” Knockout is being billed as a spy thriller in the James Bond / Ocean’s 11 model, and not necessarily akin to other martial arts movies, such as Carano’s last acting role in Blood & Bone.
Other than her new starring role in Knockout and her role in Blood & Bone, Carano has also received working credits as Natasha Volkova in the video game Command & Conquer: Red Alert and as Crush on the new version of American Gladiators.
Carano recently suffered her first professional MMA loss when she was defeated by Cyborg Santos as the Main Event for Strikeforce’s first ever women’s championship back in August.
In other Hollywood news……
Reports are coming out that Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson has recently signed on to star as B.A. Baracus in an upcoming movie portrayal of the 1980’s hit television series The A-Team. Neither Jackson nor the film studio responsible for producing the film have confirmed Jackson’s signing, all signs are pointing to the former champion’s involvement.
The film itself has already cast Liam Neson as Col. John ‘Hannibal’ Smith and Bradley Cooper as Lt. Templeton ‘Faceman’ Peck. Other rumored actors to play the role of Baracus, made popular by Mr. T in the original television series, are rappers The Game and Common.
Jackson has had previous acting roles in Bad Guys, The King of Queens (television), The Midnight Meat Train; and has recently worked with actor/director Hector Echavarria in several films: Never Surrender, Hell’s Chain, Death Warrior, and Duel of Legends.
