Gegard Mousasi Injured; Out of Dream 11 Tournament
posted by Clinton Wilson
MMA Weekly is reporting that Gerard Mousasi (26-2-1) has been forced to withdraw from the semi-finals of the "Super Hulk Tournament" scheduled for October 6 on the DREAM 11 card. Mousasi defeated Mark Hunt, who had an 85 pound weight advantage, by armbar to reach the semi finals. One source cites the exhibition grappling match between Mousasi and Fedor Emelianenko, which included many Sambo based throws, as the cause of injury.
There is currently no word on the severity of the injury, or if it will delay the defense of Mousasi's Strikeforce light heavyweight title.
Mousasi won the title by knocking out Renato "Babalu" Sobral in one minute of the August 15 Strikeforce bout.
The DREAM "Super Hulk Tournament" was originally scheduled to pit Mousasi against Thierry Sokoudjou (6-4) and Choi Hong-man (2-2) against Ikuhisa Minowa (42-30-8), with the winners then facing each other. DREAM is currently looking for a replacement for Mousasi.
