Clementi vs. Duncan To Headline Cage Wars Championship

posted by Joe Gullo

Popular UFC veteran Rich "No Love" Clementi (33-14-1) will return to fighting against Peter "Slam" Duncan (4-5) at Cage Wars Championship's "Nightmare" event on November 29th in Belfast, Northern Ireland.  Cage Wars Championship is a UK based promotion that has been holding events since 2002 and has featured such fighters as Seth Petruzelli, Shonie Carter, Dan Severn and Jeff Monson.  "Nightmare" will be the promotion's 12th event and the 7th to be held in Belfast, Northern Ireland.

Hoping to begin a comeback run, Clementi is returning to the cage following a loss due to shoulder injury from a fight in June.  "I picked a guy up to slam him and hurt myself and it got marked as a loss. It’s a crazy business."  Nevertheless, he has earned a reputation as a consistent fighter who always puts on a good show.

With a record of 7-3 in his last 10 contests, Clementi feels he has an advantage in the upcoming fight.  "He’s primarily an Ireland jiu-jitsu guy, so, I’m pretty confident that this should be a good victory for me."  Clementi had been riding a 6 fight winning streak, including a dominant submission victory over rival Melvin "The Young Assassin" Guillard (22-7-2, 1 NC), though was cut from the UFC following two consecutive losses.

Now, as Guillard will soon be headlining the UFC's "Ultimate Fight Night 19," Clementi has found motivation in his circumstances.  “I’m aggravated, seeing Melvin headline the show, just the way things go down. The times I perform best is when I have that type of attitude.”

Duncan, a submission fighter based in the UK, has appeared in seven of the last eight Cage Wars Championship events.  He last fought on March 29 at "Cage Wars: Decade" defeating Bryan Goldsby via submission (Kimura) in the second round.  Duncan has trained with Tom Lamont at the Chum Sut gym in Belfast. In July, he indicated on his blog that he had been struggling with multiple injuries, specifically muscular injuries, but reported success in rehabilitation using a hyperbaric chamber.
