Aleksander Emelianenko Not Fighting in Korea
posted by Jesse Denis
Aleksander Emelianenko, brother of Fedor, has officially gone on record saying he will not fight against Blagoy Ivanov in Seoul, South Korea. The fight, which was originally scheduled for September 29, but unofficial news that Ivanov injured both hands left Emelianenko without an opponent.
While the promoters had yet to give Emelianenko any information on a new opponent being found, he was informed that the events date was also up in the air. Having had enough, Emelianenko subsequently withdrew from the event citing bad organization and the unwillingness to inform him about his opponent.
Now a free agent, Aleksander finds himself in a strange position; scheduled to fight at Affliction’s first event in 2007, he was unable to be medically cleared for unofficial reasons. The only official statement made by the commission was “Aleksander Emelianenko will never be cleared to fight in the United States.” The days of the top heavyweights competing internationally are long behind us, with the exception of a few fighters; Emelianenko, long considered a consensus top heavyweight, is left without any real challenge or big payday.
