· Matt Brown Faces Mark Scanlon At “UFC On Versus 3” In March
Despite rumors that he was cut by the UFC,after his third consecutive loss to Brian Foster in November, welterweight Matt Brown (11-10, 4-4 UFC) will return to the Octagon on March 3 to face British fighter Mark Scanlon (7-1, 0-1 UFC).
The fight is expected to be part of the preliminary card at the event, which is slated for the 22,000-seat KFC Yum! Center in Louisville, Ky.
Brown, a native of Ohio, fights near home for the first time since 2009, when he defeated Pete Sell via first-round TKO at UFC 96 in Columbus. Originally a training partner of former UFC middleweight champion Rich Franklin and Jorge Gurgel near Cincinnati, Brown competed on "The Ultimate Fighter 7" before entering the UFC. Brown won four of his first five UFC bouts, but his three-fight losing streak has put his UFC career in jeopardy. The 29-year-old has mainly stayed on due to his tendency to be involved in exciting fights.
Scanlon, who trains with Team Kaobon in England, was undefeated before entering the UFC, with all seven of his wins coming before the judges' scorecards were in. His last fight before entering the UFC was a ten-second head kick knockout that took place just six weeks before he faced Pascal Krauss on late notice at UFC 122. Scanlon lost a unanimous decision to Krauss in that fight.
