What is expected to be an impressive 170-pound draw in the upcoming Bellator welterweight tournament officially has its second participant. Joining Bellator season two runner-up Dan Hornbuckle is undefeated former Olympian Rick Hawn (9-0, 1-0 BFC).

Hawn, who debuted in the organization at Bellator 33 as part of the local feature card, has finished seven of his nine opponents via knockout or TKO despite an extensive background in grappling. The 2004 Olympian finished ninth at the Games after winning multiple U.S. championships.

I'm definitely used to the tournament format due to my background in judo,” said Hawn in today's release. “I've been competing in judo competitions for many years with a very similar structure, so I'm definitely used to it, and I'm looking forward to doing it again.”

Born in Eugene, Oregon, the 34-year-old now trains with noted Muay Thai instructor Mark DellaGrotte at Team Sityodtong in Massachusetts. Hawn is also managed by American judo legend Jimmy Pedro, who won two bronze medals in the Olympics himself. One of the best rising prospects in the sport, Hawn is expected to be a darkhorse in the tournament.

“Rick was incredibly impressive in his first fight with Bellator, and is a perfect fit for our welterweight tournament,” said Bellator Chairman and CEO Bjorn Rebney. “This tournament is shaping up to be one of our most competitive and talent-rich yet and I can’t wait to see who will be facing Ben Askren for our world championship after all is said and done.”

Askren himself is a former Olympic wrestler and would certainly welcome a matchup with Hawn if he wins the tournament.

Hawn and Hornbuckle are the only two participants who are official, but five other participants are expected to compete: Steve Carl, Jay Hieron, Chris Lozano, Jim Wallhead, and Brent Weedman. The tournament will start in March and will be broadcast on MTV2.
